Estate agents say with SA proving to be a buyer's
paradise, property is being snatched up quickly by both overseas
and local investors, who are raking in better than expected returns
from rentals. Increasing bond rates resulting from four interest
rate hikes last year have added to competitive rentals, especially
in areas where demand is overwhelming.
In fact, despite a slightly depressed rental market due to a purchasing
boom, the prices of rentals have soared. Leasing agents say the
rental sector has dipped between 0.5% and 1.5% in market value
over the past five years. The irony, though, is despite the tight
conditions investors are still “making a killing”
from renting out property.
